First look at new Southampton ferry terminal

December 4, 2014 by admin

An artist impression of what Southampton’s new Red Funnel Ferry terminal will potentially look like has been released. Final plans are yet to be signed off with the proposal going in front of the public next week.

Southampton’s waterfront is currently in line for a £450m makeover with the new ferry terminal part of the development. As well as Red Funnel’s terminal, a super casino, Spitfire statue and a raft of new jobs will be created – all in a bid to improve the dilapidated Royal Pier site and raise the city's profile.

Trafalgar Dock’s transformation will be the first phase of the new scheme with construction possibly beginning in 2016. The public are invited to attend Westgate Hall between 2-9pm on Monday where plans will be available to view.

Red Funnel’s new terminal has been described as a ‘key component’ to the whole development by city officials. City Council leader Simon Letts believes it’s an exciting step forward and will improve connectivity and a better journey experience between Southampton and the Isle of Wight.
