The Solent Enterprise Zone is one of 24 new enterprise zones that the government have set up to help boost business in the UK. Based at Daedalus, which was previously a Naval base, the enterprise zone is designed with marine, aerospace and aviation manufacturing in mind.
The are currently plans to build a new Tesco store in Lee-on-the-Solent on the junction of Marine Parade West and Pier Road. This is the centre of the main shopping area and also a conservation area. Local shopkeepers and residents are campaigning against the plans as it is feared Tesco’s aggressive pricing will undercut local shops and push more people out of business.
